dog bed (tritorial)

Looking for a fun little project this weekend?  This one's quick, easy and the kids can help with it.

Recently I decided the old Costco dog bed wasn't cutting it.
So.... I picked up a few yards of fleece and some accent fabric and here's what I came up with.

Step 1.
Select fleece you like.  Make sure you get enough so the edges can be tied around the old insert.  I used 1 1/2 yards of dark grey(bottom of the pillow) and 1 1/2 yards of the light grey(for the top).

***It's important to use fleece fabric for the top and bottom pieces because other fabrics will fray
(although, come to think of it, this may be kind of cool lookin').

The accent fabric can be anything you like.

Step 2.
Lay existing insert on top of both pieces of the fleece, draw a 6 inch border around the insert, using chalk.

the chalk border's a little hard to see

Step 3.
Cut out circle, it doesn't have to be perfect.
Eyeball it!

Step. 4.
Cut even sized slits all around the circle(both fleece pieces are sill on top of each other)

Step 5.
Iron, cut out and hem your accent fabric in whatever shape you like, I did a stripe but I think polka dot shapes would be super cute!

Step 5.
Lay and pin the accent piece on top of the fleece and sew, to attach.

Step 6.
Once the accident piece is attached, lay the insert between the top and bottom pieces of fleece.

**Here's the fun part...
start tying the top and bottom fringe together!!!!  We did double knots.

Finished!
Hip, hip, hoary!!!

Gracie's lovin' it!

Good luck!  I'd love to hear how it goes!
Let me know if I can answer any questions!

Have a great weekend!

A lively day on the farm.....

Gracie, the dog

+

Rosie, the Chicken

A very
Close Call!!!

Rosie's missing a few tail feathers but she's fine....
Husband came home from work the other day and promptly let Gracie out.  One problem, I forgot to tell him the chickens were out back scratching around.

Needless to say, we had quite a chase around the yard.  Gracie chasing the chickens, husband chasing Gracie, losing a shoe in the process, our girls yelling and screaming at their dad what to do,
and there I was taking it all in....
Tears running down my face barely able to breathe,

............laughing harder than I have in years.
